PALM JUMEIRAH PROJECT: LIVING ROOM REVEAL

This is such an exciting project we’ve been absolutely desperate to reveal and now is finally the time. We started working with a lovely couple in Palm Jumeirah earlier this year to completely revamp their lounge and dining area. They had just purchased the property, had a sofa and a dining set and not much else and asked for our help to design the space from scratch. We worked with them on a Remote Styling basis - this is the ideal home decorating package for those clients brave enough to do the execution themselves. Well, let’s just say that these guys have completely blown us away and executed our design to the millimeter to absolute perfection! Oh and did I mention they had a mega curveball thrown at them - just as we handed over the final designs and shopping lists, the world was gearing up to be in full lockdown. But thanks to our extraordinary suppliers, and our clients’ project management skills, they did it and what a result.

So, let me introduce what we have now nicknamed the ‘Party like Gatsby’ room. The brief was to create a space that is elegant, sophisticated, but also practical and inviting… I think we fulfilled the brief.

Design process

We design so many rooms using our remote home styling service but it’s rare that we get to show you the results or ‘after’ shots as we are not there when the rooms are completed and we have no control over the execution. This is why revealing this room revamp is extra special and rewarding as the clients have completely embraced and implemented every single design detail we proposed for their space. Below you’ll see the before shots, our moodboards and the final results.

Design details

Now, let’s talk more about where we sourced the furniture and accessories that make the room. First we managed to bag a few bargains just before Covid took over the world. The Brass bar cabinet for example, was 50% off from Crate & Barrel and our client purchased it quite quickly as we were working on the designs not to miss out. For the rest of the sourcing, we did what we do best: mix and match designer pieces and custom made furniture with more affordable products to keep the budget on track.

Window nook

Evershine custom-made these stunning two-tone blue and white curtains - we used this framed design in previous projects and can’t get enough of it. And as we couldn’t find the right chaise longue in the right colour to go in the window nook, they also made one for us. We are a bit obsessed with the ceramic stool from Knothome we proposed as a side table.

Sitting Room

This is quite a neutral scheme in terms of colours for us, as we usually use bolder and brighter colours, but it was really lovely to tone down our design wand for once! For the walls, we looked at wall paint sample charts we never usually glanced at and immediately got drawn to this perfect shade of sandy grey aptly called Desert Light by Benjamin Moore. It’s subtle but it completely dresses the room and frames the furniture and accessories perfectly.

The geometric rug from Ebarza, complements the curvy marble coffee table (Home Centre bargs!) and the velvet stools (another bargs! from Pan Emirates) beautifully and the framed art prints from Drawdeck and PosterOne, faux plant from Bloomr, and coffee table books add the final touches to the sitting area.

TV wall

On the other side of the sofa, the piece de resistance is the beautiful light Cerused wood console with scallop detail on the doors from Marina Home which we slightly hacked at the back to use as a TV unit. Our clients fell in love with it quite early on in the process and once they were decided we kind of built the scheme around it. The wood colour clashed with their existing dining table and chairs though so we ended up having the whole dining set sand blasted, and stained to match the colour of the TV console. It took a few attemps but the result is phenomenal, I think you’ll agree.

We framed a beautiful photograph they took during a trip to Cappadocia in Turkey and some statement lighting and flowers to accessorise the TV wall.

Dining Area
For the dining area, we continued with our Art Deco design thread and asked Tareen Interiors to source this stunning wallpaper from Coordonné. The IKEA wall ledges were removed and replaced with shelves custom made to fit the alcove perfectly and create a lovely display of books, vases and accessories. Such small changes but what an impact.

Home bar

And finally, next to the sofa, we created a little entertaining zone with the fabulous brass bar cabinet and accessorised it with these chic black candle holders from Knothome. We had one of our clients’ existing art photograph framed to finish the look. The gold floor lamp and the ceiling chandeliers are all from Ebarza.

And that’s it. Such a lovely project to finalise and finally see in all its glory post-lockdown. We just need to invite ourselves back for a cocktail or two! What do you think of the result?! Let us know in the comment box below.
